Description
With the style and title reminiscent of Zbigniew Rybczyński's works, the 23-minute CONTINUUM is an immersive, disturbing depiction of war. For the Finnish artist Marikki Hakola war is a chaotic spectacle - a frightening “danse macabre”, where dance, love and death combine altogether. This dance, resembling a military drill, dehumanizes its performers, depriving them of proper impulses. Even love becomes an act of violence. Moreover - there is no end. Nothing can stop the circle of suffering. Hakola also touches on the issue of mediation of war, weaving the archival footage alongside the glimpses of devastated cities and marching soldiers. However, this footage does not show the scenes of fights, but the faces of those who are hurt the most during political conflicts - ordinary people.
